A Check With No Name??

May 17th, 2012 at 08:39 pm

An aquaintence paid me with a check for some work I did for her. The check does not have a name and address on it. Why would someone not have their name and address on their personal checks? It does not appear to be a new checking account, at least the check number is 9000+. Any ideas? I have not deposited it yet.

Is it a money order? Money orders look like checks but they do not have the name or address on them. Since you are basically exchanging money with the bank to get one there is no need for a name or address to track down the person as there is no possibility of it bouncing. Most people have never seen a money order before, but people without checking accounts (or overdrawn checking accounts) still use them.

No, is is a regular check for a local bank. Everything is the same as all checks...just no name or address at the top left corner. It is blank in that area.

I have seen starter checks like that, for when you have just opened up the account... but if this is in the 9000s then it leads me to believe that it is definitely not a starter check! I also saw another check once with the individual's name only on it -- he was a professional pilot and was rarely in one place for terribly long. I guess it does offer some insurance of security, but it's odd. Hey, as long as it clears, right? Smile Jerry
